Funding the Future of Psychology

E-mail Print

Welcome to the NYSPA Fundraising Initiative. Currently 98% of all funds received by NYSPA are obtained through membership dues. The result is that we have not had the funds to support many of the critical and wonderful programs required to enhance our profession, the people we serve, our community and ourselves. We have responded by creating a 21st century fundraising and marketing initiative that creates a brand to better educate the public about the relevance of psychology and provide opportunities for individuals, funds and organizations to contribute to NYSPA and those who we serve.

The NYSPA Fundraising Initiative is now underway, and consists of many opportunities to make a significant difference in securing the future of the organization. The NYSPA Fundraising and Marketing Committee, chaired by Herb Gingold, PhD, co-chaired by George Northrup, PhD, and founded by Richard H Wexler, PhD, has a number of involved members who are providing leadership for this exciting program.

Four program areas have been targeted for the initial phase of the fundraising initiative, including services for the public, psychology students and early career psychologists, mid-career psychologists, and psychologists in need.

The organization is collecting donations from members and from the public interested in promoting psychological initiatives and supporting the field.  In addition, the committee is targeting corporate sponsorship of NYSPA projects. The group will welcome feedback on possible companies who would have an interest in sponsorship.

Any amount of giving is appropriate. A contribution of $50 or more will be acknowledged with a NYSPA coffee mug specifically designed for those who contribute in 2009. Corporate contributions of money, goods, and/or meeting space are also welcome. Another key fundraising component is that of legacy giving, which involves estate planning.  The NYSPA Legacy Society has formed, and has several members who have made a significant commitment to the organization by remembering NYSPA in their wills.  Other forms of estate planning will be detailed in upcoming communications with NYSPA membership.

You may donate to NYSPA through this link.  To learn more about The NYSPA Legacy Society or join the NYSPA Fundraising and Marketing Committee, you may direct your inquiries to Kim Lawlor Green at the NYSPA office at 800.732.3933 or kgreen@nyspa.org.  The committee welcomes your participation -- you can make a difference in building the future of NYSPA in a variety of ways.  Please consider a generous donation of your financial resources as well as your valuable time.  Many thanks for your interest and involvement.
